Potato seed tuber purple "Blaue St. Galler" 50 pcs
Special seed potatoes- Blaue St. Galler, the purple seed tuber:
Characteristics:
A stone-age potato variety with purple flesh and skin.
A long-dormant variety, initially slow to germinate. It is recommended to preheat it in a warm flat in the sun before planting to promote germination. It produces many tubers, the tubers do not grow too large, but to grow them the plant needs a balanced rainfall (rainwater is best).
The purple colour is due to anthocyanins, which have antioxidant properties (like beetroot), making them somewhat healthier than traditional potato varieties. Its purple colour may seem bizarre, but when served properly, it can make a really special addition to a festive dinner table. It's an A-B cooking type, so it's better to cook it whole, baking it after pre-cooking. It loses its colour after cooking, but the purple remains purple. With the right amount of butter, it makes an extraordinary mashed potato.
Cultivation:
Planting:
Recommended for persistent soil temperatures above 8°C.
Plant protection:
Against phytophthora, it does not require more attention than the usual control. It is more resistant than the average to blight and blackleg.
