The loss of colour in blue hydrangeas is due to the depletion of aluminium sulphate in the soil. So, not all hydrangeas ( Hydrangea) may turn blue, only those that were originally purchased blue and have lost their blue colour over time. Hydrangeas that were originally white, pink or red will not turn blue with the addition of aluminium sulphate.
