(Medicago sativa) Alfalfa should not be missing from your garden rotation. It improves the structure and quality of our garden soil. A valuable perennial plant with triple benefits:
1. its deep roots loosen compact soil
2. bacteria on the roots fix nitrogen in the air
3. it is a protein-rich fodder crop for our livestock. It increases the yield and quality of vegetables and flowers sown afterwards. It is also an excellent starter plant for new grasses. Never leave fallow land unplanted, sow alfalfa in it. In heavy rainfall, alfalfa protects against erosion, prevents valuable nutrients from leaching out of the deeper layers and prevents weeds from becoming overgrown.
Use: cut after flowering and work into the soil or compost beforehand. The roots left in the soil provide nutrients for the next crop.
