Bactofil Vegetables innovative soil conditioner
Bacteria, including soil bacteria, are an integral part of our daily lives.
The BactoFil range is the most patented and widely used agricultural microbiological formulation in most countries of the world, with over a million hectares of field and farm experience. Although this unique range of soil-activating products has been used with great success in horticultural crops, it has been used primarily in field crops due to the special handling requirements of the liquid formulation. For this 10th anniversary year of the foundation of AGRO.bio Hungary Kft., the result of a long-awaited development has matured. As a result of many years of microbiological research and development work, a powder version of the BactoFil products has been produced, which activates the treated soil with the same efficiency as the liquid formulation. The box contains 5 grams of BactoFil powder in 2-2 water-soluble sachets. This makes it very easy and safe to use, as the small water-soluble sachet is simply dropped into, say, a watering can, where it dissolves very quickly and can be used to treat the soil of the plant, whether it is for the current autumn tree planting or for the installation or renewal of the lawn. Detailed instructions for use can be found on the back of each can.
The role of soil bacteria:
The primary role of soil bacteria is somewhat similar to that of human biological bacteria. Soil bacteria have the ability to blunt the harmful effects of pesticides and fertilisers used in cultivation, and to eliminate them in the longer term. This is also to say that soil bacteria should and should not be used instead of these products, but alongside them. Consistent use of soil bacteria can result in significantly better (around 80-90%) fertiliser uptake and more effective crop protection. Today, without pesticides and fertilisers, economic production and the production of sufficient quantities of food is unthinkable. However, it is also clear that the last 50 years of intensive use have wreaked havoc on the biological life of our soils. According to some studies, we will have enough topsoil for up to 60 years if agricultural production continues at this rate and approach. So the primary role of soil bacteria, bacterial fertilisers (among many others), is to restore balance to our soils by intensively increasing the bacterial population.
How do we use the product?
This product is a version of BactoFil B 10 specially developed for retail vegetable growers. The box contains 2 5 gram sachets, each sufficient to treat 100 square metres of land. The sachet is water soluble and should be dissolved without opening, then evenly applied to the soil surface and rotated into the soil to the depth of sowing and planting. The effect of the product is identical to that of BactoFil B 10.
It is absolutely harmless to the user, the consumer and the environment and can therefore be used in organic farming.
The advantages of using this product are:
Longer lasting effects
The introduction of soil bacteria into the technology and their long-term use (2-3 years) already provides very significant benefits. Their long-term use improves humification and increases the humus content of the soil. Thesoil building properties of BactoFil® products lead to a qualitative change in the colloidal system, improving water retention and overall soil structure. The improvement in tilth can be measured in terms of fuel consumption of machinery, which can save e.g. 20-30% on a bound soil.
Immediate effects
Soil bacteria naturally have immediate effects. These include atmospheric nitrogen fixation, which unfortunately is often mystified. AGRO.bio uses several nitrogen fixing strains in its products, but none of them claim to be able to fix 180 kg of nitrogen. The strains considered most effective in the world today are Azotobacter and Azospirillum.
According to the Pasteur Institute, the former can provide 15-25 kg of nitrogen (N ) under field conditions, the latter 60-80 kg. This should also be interpreted as a continuous supply of nitrogen during vegetation, which is partly fixed from the air in the porous parts of the soil and partly released from organic compounds in the soil. If we consider the behaviour of large amounts of nitrogen applied before sowing, or the results of nitrogen utilisation linked to precipitation, this becomes invaluable. There is also an immediate tangible benefit from hormone and vitamin supplementation.
Phosphorus and potassium utilisation
A similarly immediate benefit is the use of phosphorus in soil and crop residues, which are otherwise unavailable to cropsphosphorus (P) and potassium (K)and making them available for uptake by cultivated plants. It should be noted here that the mineralised phosphorus and potassium uptake from the soil is a specific feature of BactoFil® products, something that no other bacterial fertiliser can do. By consciously using soil bacteria, depending on the crop and plant residue, we can talk about savings of between 20 and 90 thousand HUF per vegetation!
Tangible and immediate effect ofsiderofor production. Soil microorganisms (bacteria, fungi) are in constant competition for iron ions, which play a key role in their reproduction. Pseudomonas fluorescens in BactoFil® products is today one of the most recognised producers of siderophores (small molecule organic compounds), and thus intensively removes iron from other microorganisms such as Fusarium or Sclerotinia. This is known in the trade as "soil disinfection", although "nematode fungal growth inhibition" would be more appropriate.
