The needs of asparagus during cultivation:
Asparagus is a light and heat-demanding vegetable, but also frost-sensitive. It has a high water requirement and is very water-wise. It is not particularly sensitive to soil type, but it is important that the soil is rich in nutrients.Sowing seeds in deep, cultivated, dug or ploughed soil or planting pre-grown seedlings is almost guaranteed to be successful!
The morphology of asparagus:
A bush type, short vine developing, prolific variety. The fruit is cylindrical, slightly ribbed, the flesh is greenish-white, thick, the skin is butter-coloured and yellow when ripe. Suitable for growing under plastic film and as a second crop, tolerates drought well.
Sowing:
a heat-hungry plant, sow in the open ground only after the danger of frost has passed, in May, at a depth of 3-5 cm. Planting by seedling increases the earliness and results in a balanced stand.
Seed requirements:
8-10g/10 m2 . At reseeding, sow 2-3 seeds per cluster, which are then sown to 1-2 plants after emergence.
Spacing:
row spacing: 100 cm, spacing between stems: 80 cm.
Harvesting:
July-August.
