What is bitter salt?
Bitter salt is a versatile substance that has been used since the Middle Ages, mainly for medicinal purposes. Epsom salt is in fact magnesium sulphate (MgSO4), a salt formed by a mixture of magnesium and sulphuric acid. It is currently used mainly in agriculture for plant care, as well as in health care. A
The use of bitter salt:
Magnesium is a chlorophyll forming element. Plants are less able to take up magnesium from the soil, so its use is mainly recommended as a foliar fertiliser. Usually used in supplementary amounts as indicated in the advisory.
General application as a solution:
- In rape until flowering 5%
- In other arable crops 5%
- in potatoes at harvest 5%
- 1-2% in orchards at harvest
- 3-4% in vines after flowering
- in vegetables from setting 1-2%
- ornamental plants 2-3%.
Storage:
Store in original, sealed packaging, away from other materials, protected from heat (max. 30 C), well ventilated, dry, cool but frost-free.
